Pocahontas (1D)

There are many misconceptions and false stories about the character Pocahontas mostly caused by Disney and all of their movies and cartoons about her. Disney displays Pocahontas as a Native American woman who falls madly in love with an English settler by the name of John Smith and saves the colonists from many hardships due to her love for John Smith. The first mistake is Pocahontas was not a woman at the time of the colonists arrival, she was merely a young girl around the age of 12. She never had a romantic relationship with John Smith for he was much too old and history also records her being married to another man. She did not help the colonists because of her love for John Smith but perhaps because of the interest she had for the colonists and the potential to learn many new things from them.  Her father also may have forced her to be somewhat of an ambassador for the Native Americans. She was not a women saving a single man because of her love for him but instead a mere girl being exploited by both the Native Americans and the colonists because of the position that she held.
