Christmas Break.
I am all caught up in my blogs just in time for Christmas Break. I am looking forward to a nice, little break from school and then a fun second semester in English.
What Were You Thinking, Edgar?
There was a faint voice that could be heard and then another and another. Soon the faint voices escalated into nearby yells and screams. It sounded like fights were breaking out and people running by. Could this be the French Army here to save me and any others who may be held prisoner? Surely it must be and I look up to see an outstretched hand reaching toward me. I reach up to grab the hand and as my hand reaches my rescuer's hand I feel nothing. I look again and the hand is gone. As I sit in silence I realize there is no noise, no talking, and surely no screams or fighting. Everything is black! Everything is black, always has been black and always will be black. I am sick of the black! I quickly get up and walk to the edge of the pit and without a second thought I dive in. I dive into the blackness to forever remain in the blackness that I hate.

Team Poe.
I give a lot of respect to Edgar Allan Poe because although his poems are dark and often unbearably sad they always relate back to his personal life. He takes the saddest parts of his life and turns them into his best stories. He is able to take his pain and create a beautiful work of art through his hardship and struggle. Through his pain he is able to share with us and connect to us giving us all a better understanding of what he was going through. He makes us understand him better as a person and ourselves as well and that is an artists main goal. He shows us the world through his eyes and does a great job at doing so. His descriptive writing and intelligence shown through his writings just add to his ability to create amazing poems and stories.

Romantic Poem Reflection
I enjoyed "The Skeleton in Armor" after I fully understood what the story really meant. When I first read the poem it really did not make much sense to me but after we went over it in class I had a better understanding of the poem and what it was about. It was the story of an all mighty Viking who fell in love with non other than the princess of the land. He wished to marry the princess but the king would not have his daughter marrying a barbaric Viking. So that night the Viking and princess ran away together and sailed away to their own tower to live in. The princess soon had a baby and dies after giving birth. The Viking is so distraught over the death of his one true love that he commits suicide and the story ends there. Its a sad story but an interesting one too. Its amazing how the story seems like it means nothing and then we go over it in class and now I have a whole new look on not only that story but that author as well.

(I hope my Voki works...I spent a good 30 minutes making him.)
I look out my window and I notice how the trees are beginning to change colors and lose their leaves. I think about how I myself am beginning to change as well. I am losing old traits and my personality begins to change. I am not becoming an entirely new person just like how the trees do not disappear but small changes are being made to both of us. I stay Dean, the same person, but I also begin to grow and mature. The trees keep their trunks and branches but begin to change colors and lose their leaves as well. The trees are preparing for winter as I prepare for adulthood.

Political Climate of the 1950s
My Source.
During the McCarthy Hearings Joseph McCarthy questioned people's loyalty to the country without hesitation. He spoke out against many people including members of the armies and celebrities in Hollywood. He was determined to find things that he claimed he knew were there and never found them. He accused many of being communists and harshly attacked their loyalty and character. For his ruthless and often unnecessary attacks of the character of many his approval ratings began to drop. His televised hearings only proved to further people's dislike for him.

Crucible Reflection- Act 1.
Throughout reading Act 1 of the Crucible I really began to understand the message that Arthur Miller was trying to get across due to the McCarthy hearings. When you read The Crucible you cannot help but think how crazy not only Abigail is but how crazy the court system is as well. It seems ridiculous that these judges would not only believe Abigail's accusations but set out to persecute people because of them as well. It seems crazy as well that McCarthy was going on his "witch hunts" and persecuting celebrities and people thought to be communists. Arthur Miller does a great job painting pictures in your head to help you better understand the story and the situation. The way he talks about Abigail drinking chicken blood and how Tituba is thought to be a witch because she is from Africa only serve to add to the details shown in Act 1.

Write Like A Puritan Week.
Well for some reason this didn't go through the first time I posted it last Sunday. I don't know why that happened? Hmmm... Well anyway.
In the darkness of the night I slip out my house to find sanctuary in my backyard looking upon the stars that fill up the night skies. As beautiful as each of these stars our tonight it is not these that catch my attention. My gaze fixes upon the moon that is nearly full in the sky tonight. As wondrous as this is, this also is not what catches my full attention. At last my gaze sets upon the subject of my curiosity, the distant planets barely visible in the clear, night sky. How did God create all of these beautiful planets so vastly different? What a wonder.

Squanto.
Arguably the most significant figure responsible for the survival of the pilgrims is a Native American named Squanto. Squanto had previously visited England before the pilgrims arrival on the Mayflower and spoke fluent English. He was able to communicate and talk to the pilgrims helping them with several issues. He certainly saved them from starvation by showing them how to tend the land teaching them different farming techniques. He made sure the pilgrims could be self sufficient surviving off of what nature offered. He also helped the pilgrims form peace treaties with the Native Americans who otherwise might of attacked the pilgrims. Without the help of Squanto the pilgrims most likely would not have survived and we wouldn't celebrate one of my favorite holidays, Thanksgiving.

Pocahontas (1D)
There are many misconceptions and false stories about the character Pocahontas mostly caused by Disney and all of their movies and cartoons about her. Disney displays Pocahontas as a Native American woman who falls madly in love with an English settler by the name of John Smith and saves the colonists from many hardships due to her love for John Smith. The first mistake is Pocahontas was not a woman at the time of the colonists arrival, she was merely a young girl around the age of 12. She never had a romantic relationship with John Smith for he was much too old and history also records her being married to another man. She did not help the colonists because of her love for John Smith but perhaps because of the interest she had for the colonists and the potential to learn many new things from them. Her father also may have forced her to be somewhat of an ambassador for the Native Americans. She was not a women saving a single man because of her love for him but instead a mere girl being exploited by both the Native Americans and the colonists because of the position that she held.

Native American Culture Blog.
The Native American Song That I Chose.
I think that all of the Native American songs, dances, and chants are a great way to learn about their culture. The way Native Americans told stories through these different art forms is something musicians and artists still model today. The Native Americans showed love to nature and to their gods through songs and dances. The harmonies in the their songs make you feel the connection that they so deeply had with nature. They were not fighting against nature but instead they were fighting with nature as one. This song especially gives me a feeling of peace and sense of calming. It gives me a deeper understanding of the Native Americans who originally made the song in a way that cannot easily be explained.

Majestic Hawk.
I wish I would have invented the name Majestic Hawk myself but unfortunately Becca beat me to it which makes me sad and even forces me to question if I even wish to continue living my life where I do not have the satisfaction of creating the name Majestic Hawk. The name Majestic Hawk means everything to me, its more than a just a mere name but more of a representation of everything that I stand for. I wish that I was Majestic Hawk but sadly I am not and instead I am Chunky Bits And Pieces but you can call me Mr. Chunky Bits And Pieces. With all of that being said I welcome you to my blog and encourage you to continue reading it.
A moment of pure happiness between Majestic Hawk and Chunky Bits And Pieces.
